GRACE UNDER FIRE
Born and raised in Queens, New York, Jaspreet’s family had a deep appreciation for the U.S. legal system long before she embarked on a career in law. "Originally from Punjab, India, my parents had to navigate complex legal processes to make their way to America,” she says. “It was a challenging journey, but one they were incredibly grateful to be a part of."
After a little parental prodding, Jaspreet began competing in (and winning) mock trials in high school. The rest, as they say, is history.
Like several of her colleagues, Jaspreet first encountered Jones Jones as formidable courtroom opponents.
“As a claimant’s attorney, I had the opportunity to go up against several Jones Jones associates,” she says. But despite their opposing objectives, Jaspreet found their approach to winning was very much in sync. “No matter how fierce the fight, we were always very respectful. By the time Ian Leaderman asked me to join the firm, I knew and admired this team very much. It was an easy yes.”
With several years of experience in workers’ compensation, plus time spent as a defense attorney on Wall St., Jaspreet has the ability to see cases from all sides. “I can usually predict where opposing counsel will go next, and be ready to fire back.”
Back at the office where the gloves are off, she revels in a culture that is unusually supportive. “Everyone has been so warm and welcoming,” she smiles. “They don’t fit the stereotype of brash New York lawyers. Instead they handle everything with grace and respect, which helps you meet more of your end goal.”
In working with clients, Jaspreet likens her approach to that of a dedicated teacher introducing a new subject. "Lawyers often overlook the fact that clients aren't familiar with legal jargon," she says. "What seems straightforward to us can be bewildering to them. I make it a point to step back and explain strategies clearly and patiently. Good communication isn't just about what we say, but ensuring clients grasp why certain events unfold the way they do during hearings."
On the home front, Jaspreet spends every free moment as full-time mom to two energetic boys (aka the Irish Twins) who are just 10 months apart. “There’s a lot of laughter filling the house these days,” she says. “I’m now the official referee of play time, which involves saving a life at least once a day,” she jokes.
Jaspreet brings her A-game everywhere she goes. We’re stoked she picked our team
